Progress Report
on the Indigenous Strategic Plan & the UBCO Declaration of Truth & Reconciliation Commitments.
Framing the Work
The Progress Report on the Indigenous Strategic Plan and the UBCO Declaration of Truth and Reconciliation Commitments reflects UBC’s continued commitment to reconciliation, Indigenous rights, and systemic change on each of our primary learning sites and beyond. This report is not just an update or inventory of initiatives; it represents a reaffirmation of the university’s responsibility to advance decolonization and Indigenous self-determination in alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) Calls to Action, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), and the Calls for Justice of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).
Rather than a final benchmark, this report should be understood as part of an ongoing institutional transformation that requires sustained effort, accountability, and engagement from all areas of the university.
The initiatives and commitments presented here are only possible through continued investment and shared responsibility across the UBC community. It is a reflection of work in motion and work that must be continually deepened, expanded, and supported to create lasting change. UBC remains dedicated to this journey, and we invite all readers to consider their role in ensuring that reconciliation and decolonization remain central to the university’s future.
Honouring Place
Depending on the location and edition of the Progress Report, the cover features imagery representing the respective campus. While both editions contain the same reported information, the Vancouver edition prioritizes ISP Actions, whereas the Okanagan edition highlights TRC Commitments at the beginning of the report.
We honour, celebrate and thank the xʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam) and Syilx Okanagan peoples on whose territories the main campuses of the University of British Columbia have the privilege to be situated.
